Dr. Maria Rita Palattella (S’04, M’07, PhD’11) is a Senior Researcher and Technology (R&T) Associate at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) in the Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) department. She is leading the work on the design of innovative communication systems and network architectures for different Internet of Things (IoT) applications, including environmental monitoring, and precision agriculture.

Currently she is PI and project manager for several national and international projects (FNR LORSAT, SMC Lux5GCloud, IoT4WEED, H2020 HEMS) investigating the use of IoT for smart agriculture applications (e.g., crop supervision, weed control). She is the coordinator of the EU Horizon Europe COMMECT project, aiming to design energy-efficient and cost-effective connectivity solutions to empower rural and remote communities. In the context of the emerging 5G/B5G heterogeneous networks, she is investigating means of efficiently intertwining IoT and satellites, with focus on LoRa/LoRaWAN in the FNR LORSAT project, and with focus on NB-IoT in the SatNEX V ONION project.
