Rajendra Kumar Bahuguna
Joined Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers (IRSSE) and worked from January,1982 to October, 2001 in various administrative/managerial capacities on Indian Railways. To start with, he was responsible for management of Signaling & Telecom infrastructure of Indian Railways in Mumbai Division, Western Railway. He pioneered modernization of telecom network on Indian Railways, especially OFC communication while working in Railway Electrification Project & N.F. Railway. A professional Railway Signalling engineer he has vast experience in construction and maintenance of Signal & Telecom infrastructure for over 25 years.
Before joining Indian Railways in Jan’1982, he also worked for a short spell (1½ years) with TELCO, Jamshedpur for & managed 2nd generation computers & communication system.
As founder member, he joined RailTel Corporation in October’ 2001 as Regional head of Western Region and took up modernization of telecom infrastructure on Indian Railways. For 6 years, he built up OFC infrastructure and started telecom business for RailTel. The business of RailTel grew year on year and turned RailTel into a profitable enterprise. He worked as Director (Network Planning & Marketing) in the Board of RailTel for 4 years from July’2007 Sept’2011 and has created new & unique business opportunities like NKN (National Knowledge Network), DOT (USOF) projects for Optical Fiber Communication & distinct Enterprise business opportunities.
He worked as CMD/RailTel for 6 yrs. from Oct 2011-sept 2017 and transformed RailTel to profitable, growing & respectable company with turnover of approx. Rs 900 Cr. He channelized resources on Niche areas & exclusive ICT sector & created strategic Govt. N/W, IT projects, Tele-presence as a service, Data Center solutions etc. He envisaged & created in partnership with Google, largest integrated Free Public Wi-Fi System in the world with approx. 10 Million distinct users per month across Rly stations.
Presently he is working as Advisor/ICT in Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) for Gurugram Smart City initiative & working towards improving livability & quality of life in city.
He is keenly working towards improving quality of education especially in Govt. schools, deploying easy to use technological solution for engagement-based learning.
He is conferred ‘Distinguished Alumni’ by IITR, his Alma mater and has been Fellow of IETE, IRSTE & IRSE (London). He is widely travelled & has presented various technical papers in conferences/ seminars in the country & abroad.
